Baby Gorilla is a story of destruction and redemption, of addiction that nearly killed me, and the second chances that saved me.

From overdoses and broken promises to becoming a husband, father of five, and founder of one of the nation’s most successful gymnastics programs, this is proof that pain can be turned into purpose.

It’s not polished. It’s not pretty. But it’s real. And it shows that even the lowest moments can become the foundation for something wonderful.

If you’ve ever felt too far gone, Baby Gorilla is your reminder: it’s never too late to rise again.

Public Statement from Daniel Gundert

Owner & CEO of Gyminny Kids

Over the past few years, I’ve been writing a memoir titled Baby Gorilla, a deeply personal story about my journey through addiction, recovery, and ultimately building a purpose-driven life centered around family, leadership, and service to others.

Before I became a husband, father of five, and owner of Gyminny Kids, I was a young man lost in addiction. My past includes mistakes I’ll never forget, times when I let people down, disappeared from those I loved, and battled demons I didn’t think I’d survive. But I did survive. And with the support of my family, my faith, and a relentless commitment to growth, I’ve been sober since 2020 and have built a company I’m proud of, one that changes lives daily.

I’m sharing this story not to shock or sensationalize, but to humanize it. Behind every child’s coach, leader, and parent is a story. Mine is filled with pain but also transformation. The heart of Baby Gorilla is this: our greatest pain can become our greatest strength if we choose to use it for good.

Gyminny Kids has always stood for more than gymnastics. We teach character, resilience, and confidence. And those values didn’t come from a textbook; they came from life experience, from falling hard and getting back up.

I know this book might surprise some people. But I also know that telling the truth, especially the hard truth, is one of the most powerful ways to lead.

To the families who’ve trusted us for decades: thank you. You’ve allowed our team and me to show up every day and make a difference. And to anyone out there who’s ever struggled, this book is for you.

Thank you for letting me share the journey.
